Lucky and I yelp at the same time. “Ylfa!”

We watch, horrified, as our mate plops into the water, and thank the moon she didn’t hit the rocks. She bursts up moments later, gasping for breath.

All three of us take no time to hesitate. We rush to the water’s edge, but just as we’re about to jump, I stop the others.

“No, just one of us! You fight off the attack.”

Brent and Hunter pause, glancing across the river. Agatha and her team have arrived, and they’re going to make sure we fall.

They’re going to make sure Ylfa falls. The bitch who blinded them all at the start of the games.

The deadly female hovers in the shadows, patting the shoulder of the woman who shot the rock. The smaller female wields a slingshot, and I clench my fists.

She hurt my mate.

Mate...

Chelsea, Annabel, and Tiff fight them, but they’re outnumbered, but I have no time to dwell on that.

I have to save Ylfa.

Wasting no time, I jump into the river in wolf form and swim across. If there’s anyone who can make it through the running rapids, then it’s Lucky.

He’s lucky, after all.

Ylfa has gripped onto a rock, but she’s losing purchase, trying to keep her head above the water.

When I reach her, she grabs onto my soaked fur, and I tell her to shift. It occurs to me faintly that she could have shifted herself and swam across, but I couldn’t have wasted another moment.

My mate was in trouble, so I acted fast.

We soon make it across as I shake my fur out, checking to see if she’s okay. Now that the shock has left her system, and she’s free of the cold water, I tell her to shift. Her wolf’s body will heat her up in no time.

Plus, we may need to fight.

Soon, Silver takes the place of the shivering, sputtering woman, and now we both stand, facing the other side of the bank.

The girls are outnumbered. They have Declan fighting on their side, but Agatha’s team is winning.

The famous female wolves of the Southern Tribe... They’re said to be the strongest of all and they take no prisoners.

They may even try to kill us, despite this being a game. Winning is that important to them, after all.

Hunter and Brent have swum across, deciding to risk the river to save our team. The last thing I want to do is make Ylfa go back in that water.

But our team needs us.

It’s time for us to be the heroes.

We have to help them... I say in mind speak.

Ylfa fixes her wolf’s green eyes on the other side of the bank. She nods, and now we also jump into the water.

The moment we make it to the other side, we fight. I aim straight for one of the small males of Agatha’s pack, and I have him crying in no time.

One of the females attacks me next, almost pushing me back into the river, but I stop her progress in time, kicking my legs back into the dirt.
